Common Questions
Window Tinting FAQ
Everything you need to know about window tinting in New York State — from legal limits to care instructions.
What is the legal window tint limit in New York State?
In New York State, front side windows must allow at least 70% of light through (70% VLT). Rear side windows and the rear window on sedans also require 70% VLT minimum. SUVs and vans have more flexibility on rear windows. Double A Window Tint ensures every installation complies with current NY tint law.
How long does automotive window tinting take?
Most vehicle window tinting jobs are completed same day in 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the number of windows and type of film. We recommend leaving windows rolled up for 3–5 days after installation while the film fully cures.
What is ceramic window tint and is it worth it?
Ceramic window tint uses nano-ceramic particles to block heat and UV rays without interfering with radio, GPS, or cell phone signals. It delivers superior heat rejection, does not fade over time, and is the top choice for long-term performance. It costs more than standard films but provides the best results.
Do you offer mobile window tinting?
Yes. Double A Window Tint offers mobile tinting services across Albany, Schenectady, and Saratoga Counties. We come to your home, office, or any convenient location. Call 518-729-6222 or 838-218-6823 to schedule your mobile appointment.
How do I care for my new window tint?
Avoid rolling windows down for 3–5 days while the film cures. Clean with a soft microfiber cloth and an ammonia-free window cleaner. Never use abrasive pads or harsh chemicals like Windex with ammonia on the inside of tinted glass.
How long does window tint last?
Quality window film installed by a professional typically lasts 10–20 years. Ceramic and carbon films last longer than basic dyed films. Bubbling, peeling, or fading before that time usually indicates poor quality film or improper installation — which is why choosing an experienced installer matters.
Can window tint be removed?
Yes, window tint can be professionally removed. This is sometimes necessary when film reaches end of life or if you need to change the tint level. We recommend having tint removed professionally to avoid damage to defroster lines on rear windows.
Does Double A Window Tint do commercial buildings?
Yes. We tint commercial storefronts, office buildings, restaurants, medical offices, and other commercial properties across the Capital Region. We offer solar control, privacy, frosted, security, and decorative films for commercial applications. Contact us for a commercial estimate.
Do you tint homes and residential properties?
Yes. We offer residential window film for homes across Albany, Schenectady, and Saratoga Counties. Home window film reduces heat, blocks UV rays, adds privacy, and can improve energy efficiency. Solar, frosted, and security films are all available.
Will window tint affect my defroster or GPS?
Standard metallic films can interfere with radio signals and GPS. Ceramic window tint, however, uses non-metallic particles and does not interfere with any electronic signals. We'll help you choose the right film for your needs.
